Go and read your 2026 goals 🎯

Hi Reader, when was the last time you looked at your goals for 2026?

Now, I’m not going to pretend I’m this 4am wake-up leadership guru and my business goals are printed on my mirror for me to look at every day.

I looked at our 2026 goals for the first time since setting them in December 2025, 2 weeks ago!

We were setting our Q3 rocks for the business, and Justin King, who's our business coach helping us at Growth Experts, said, "Hey, let's pull up your 2026 goals. When was the last time we looked at these?" I was like, "Well this is awkward. Not since we set them in December..."

When I looked at our 2026 goals, I realised we’d:

  • Had ticked a few off! âś…
  • A few needed more work
  • Two needed a big push on
  • One needed to be deleted as it was no longer true
  • And one goal made absolutely no sense and we had to figure out why we put it down. 🤡

It was great to see that we were still on track!

If we hit all of them by the end of 2026, I would definitely think this year was a success.

They also gave us great direction on what we are going to focus on in Q3.

The year flies by

It’s already mid-July and those goals we set back in December feel like a lifetime ago.

We all get caught up in the day-to-day, month-to-month of business. Problems come our way that we need to urgently solve. New ideas come at us all day long (thanks AI and all you LinkedIn influencers) either inspiring us or making us feel overwhelmed.

That’s why I love using Traction in Growth Experts and having the process of setting Rocks each quarter to focus on.

It stops me from throwing my ideas at my team like hand grenades and asking them to catch and run with them. I now share the ideas, but my sentence always ends with “and we’ll do this next quarter”.

This also becomes a great filter for ideas too. If we get to the next quarter and those ideas still excite me and the team, we do them! If not, they are deleted.

The TL;DR of this newsletter

Go back and read your 2026 goals, marketing strategy, sales strategy or any of your strategies you set.

You’ll be surprised at what you most likely have accomplished already this year.

And if the goals and strategy you set still excites you, then you’ll have some direction on what to do next.

Taylor Jackson snuck in here while Jason wasn't looking last time. He's still in the GE gulag, so I am taking the podium next. Two years in, and they finally handed me the keys. Jason's probably going to regret this. Hi everyone 👋 My name is Marli, and I've been with Growth Experts for a while now. So why am I writing this newsletter today for you to read? Because I’m going to let you in on something cool. Because I know you and I can be cool like that Reader. Marketing is a pretty consistent...

Hi Reader, Yesterday, somebody reached out to me who I haven't spoken to in over three years. They were finally ready to start talking about marketing for their business. THREE YEARS after our first conversation… (Firstly, good luck to me trying to attribute the lead source in our CRM on this one. Do I create a new deal, or resurrect the old deal with all the notes?! 🫠) The thing that got to me about this, and why I also made a video on it, is around understanding timing. I can't plan for...

Hi Reader, the riches are in the niches. We’ve all heard this many times, me included, yet I’m still marketing my own business way too broadly and wonder why I don’t have a Ferrari* parked in my driveway (yet). How I’ve picked “niches” before I would take our client list, see which industry they were in, consider if I’d like a lot more of those businesses as clients, and then go off and create content and landing pages targeting that industry. The big problem was this was WAY TOO BROAD. Like...
